IiS '24 R7 @ Belle Isle - INDYCAR iRacing Series

I absolutely love Belle Isle. Had some great battles throughout this race and a good mix of strategy. If only I remembered to change my fuel map the first few laps :D. I'll try to reorganize my dashboard so it's a bit more visible/useful in the recording. I'm a glutton for data but things are a bit small here. 00:00 - Start 10:52 - Lap 22 17:20 - Lap 37 22:47 - Lap 42 24:29 - Lap 46

Absolutely love driving anything at Long Beach, but the IR18 is just something else. A blast of a race, I didn't hit a wall on lap 1. Definitely some work to do on race pace but I'm happy with the drive. Learned a lot as well. 00:00 - Start 24:26 - Lap 25 28:23 - Lap 39

Love how you casually drive and talk while being top 10 in the top split race. =)
GG! That track had some scary spots. Great job staying clean
Thanks bud! I love these street courses, they're punishing when you make a mistake but the track boundaries are super clear. It makes it all about execution.
awesome set up
Thank you! It's been built over so many years. The only thing I still have from back in 2010 when I built the rig is the frame and desk itself. Seat, wheel, computer bits have all come and gone. Though all slow upgrades as well.
One day I will have the funds to build one like yours, all I have is a shitty T80 jeje
@jamess4444 I used a G27 for the first 9 years of iRacing. Before that I had the Xbox 360 wheel for Forza 2 and 3 lol. We all start somewhere. The hardware doesn't make the driver.
hey charlie, always wonder why you dont record the whole race and then just edit it for youtube. seems like it would make your life easier in the race, not having to worry about times to talk and times not to talk
like at 23 40 with the course cut ya know?
I have tried that in the past, didn't get great reception. Plus I'm fine talking while racing, especially because I'm just going over what I'm thinking/doing, so it comes out pretty naturally. There are times I'll quiet up and focus on racing, there haven't been any where I've really focused on racing and kept the video going, but I'm not opposed to it if I need to give 110% of my focus to driving. Like in the pro series, I tried commentating while driving, it was just too much work so I didn't do anything. I'll keep it in mind for the future though, it's not a bad idea, just hasn't been my style. Thank you!
@@CharlieSearsRacing well i do think you would make a great streamer. youve got a great personality, a great setup and do a good job talking while driving. gg gr
Hey it's the place where the thing happened! Great Run!
Ha, I was waiting for you to return. Even had the thumbnail with our cars in the bad place. I can't get enough of Detroit though, Belle Isle is an incredible track.
@@CharlieSearsRacing its too good for real life apparently 🤣 indycar makes some interesting decisions
@@DJYeeJay ha, hard to argue that. Though I hope new Detroit improves. It has only been a few years, this year was wet with a lot of rookies, these things happen at street courses stacked like that. I do miss Belle Isle on the calendar, but it is neat seeing downtown Detroit on the broadcasts and not just over the river :D
Love your videos! Are the black bars in the gameplay from running a triple monitor setup?
Yessir, I could remove them from the video with Nvidia Surround, but I've had so many issues with it 😞
@@CharlieSearsRacing I like it it as it gives me a better sense of what a 3 monitor setup would look like
@@NolanXBL it blends right in when looking at the three monitors. I don't notice the bezels at all. The mind just fills in the space
Hey i watched the 1 point video, found my way here! Can you do a rig tour?
Welcome! I definitely need to do a rig tour sooner rather than later :D
Devastating loss btw lol
Thank you, shame I did it to myself, glad I didn't take anyone else out. Lesson continuing to be learned :D
Do you happen to still have the SRW-S1 dial program?
I don't, sorry :(
I’m certain I saw you twice at Barber over the weekend but could never make it over to confirm. Was that you??
I was out that weekend unfortunately. I was bummed to miss it, such a fun track. Hope you had a great run there!
Ohhh mannnn. Solid defending while you held it. Tough break bud.
It happens, did it to myself. On to the next one at least :)
good racing dude! happens to all of us.
Appreciate it! I'm focusing on what I did well and how I can avoid that happening the next time. Shit happens, I just want to avoid it as much as possible haha
A good experience to learn from! You did a really good job and just got the tiniest bit unlucky! Chin up mate, you'll get it next time!
Thank you! It's a bummer, but I over drove the car. No Fernando like save at Shanghai this past weekend. I went full Sainz :D I wish I could stop learning the lesson of pushing so hard with so few laps remaining. Here especially it seemed an obvious outcome early on given the tire differential alone. On to the next one!
Well, I was wondering why I was so slow on this track. Turns out I do at least 2 turns completely the wrong way. Thanks for the tips!
Glad it was helpful! I'm fairly slow there myself unfortunately. Better than I used to be, but lost a lot of time here compared to others. At least I could see more of the right line haha.
Brutal dude
It was such a dang good race otherwise. I'm just fortunate I only impacted my own race. Though in watching this back I should have towed the car IMMEDIATELY and not tried to drive it back. No way that thing was coming back to the pits for repairs haha
Not again!
Consistency is key 😭
GG! That track looks stressful. Looks like taking pitt early to get out of traffic turned out to be a great call
Thanks bud! It's one of my favorite tracks but it's brutal haha. That early pit worked out awesome, tough to figure that out in the race sometimes, fortunately it worked out.
Easily some of the best iRacing content on the entire platform. Always a welcome surprise to see you've posted.
Thank you so much! I greatly appreciate it and I'm thankful you're enjoying the videos.
Returning to the scene of the crime Edit: wait no it’s not that was Belle Isle. I’m leaving this up so you can shame me 😂
Save it for 6 weeks from now and post the same thing 😂
What are those triangles that appear on the screen?
It's the "Spotter" overlay from JRT. They show the position of another car relative to mine. So if they're in front of my face, I know there's a car right next to me (in addition to seeing them on my monitor and hearing them haha). They're most useful for knowing when it's safe to tuck back in behind someone when you're close.
yoo, great video man! Been looking to buy some Moradness gloves, do you recommend them?
Thank you! I really like the Moradness gloves, they stay tacky for a long time, are a solid fit for my hands, and have generally lasted a while. Though they're not too much different from buying a cheap pair of cycling gloves. Cycling gloves are a LOT cheaper, so poke around there before jumping into Moradness.
That crash is the gift that keeps on giving..... 😂
I'm so disappointed. I even said I didn't want to make an ass of myself in the race. Didn't even hit double digit laps lol
I felt that spin at the end! Such a familiar terrible feeling! :D
That spin still sits on my soul haha. Such a silly mistake that thankfully only cost me a few positions. Could have been a lot worse!
Thanks for posting these league races, its been great to follow your season
I'll try to keep up with all of them. Can't promise anything, but I'm glad y'all are enjoying it!
Dang. Staying clean really is the most important strat. Good attempt dude.
Thanks bud! It's a shame I threw it away at the end there. Made up 8 positions just staying out of trouble before all that. Gotta be fast and clean to be at the front haha. I definitely got a little greedy there at the end and should have centered around being fine with 10th to not make any stupid moves going for 9th. Lesson learned, again.
I havent finsihed the video just yet but where you get the arrows? I never seen those before and trying to figure out exactly what they are telling XD
JRT overlays. They're the "spotter" overlay. It's the position of other cars to mine. Insanely useful, especially at ovals
one of the oldest channels i can remember! i was always wondering, what's that desk? seems so solid even now with the simucube. also which pedals are you using now?
I have been doing this for ages haha. The desk is an MDF rig I built back in 2010 that's still going strong. Just has a 4ft laminate countertop from Home Depot. Plenty of holes in it from different wheels but I just keep the SC2 bolted down the whole time. I'm using SimJack pedals with a few Bodnar bits for the controller. I'll have to do a rig tour at some point.
@@CharlieSearsRacing yes you do. happy to still see old school desk setups in this 3.000$ brake pedal era we are living in. I also love to see that the drink is always there next to your base as always hahaha
@@gregkar2736 I wouldnt have the gear I do today without slow upgrades. I'm thankful for what I have but there are still originals from when I started iRacing in use. The drink is more often a sparkling water or NA beer. When the timing is right though I'll stay hydrated through a proper beer 😂
Solid recovery! Exciting finish
Thanks bud! I was so dejected after that hit, really thought I was looking at a podium. Just goes to show settling in and getting the work done is what's important. If I had given up I wouldn't be battling at the end, a position gained is still a position even if it's 1st, 6th, or 12th.
3:00 I AUDIBLY GASPED LOL
Just pro level moves :D. I can't believe I did that lap 1. Tires were warmed up plenty by then but NOOOOOO, I had to send it deep for absolutely no reason. I'm thankful for my recovery but hot damn what a way to start the race week.
First
Third...I'm too slow...
Hey mab just found your video. Subscribed and cant wait for more content. Thay accident with Mark definitely wasnt yout fault. Great race man
Hell yeah bud, thank you! Much appreciated. I'll give it a rewatch, always something to learn about any incident.
Great stuff. Would love a walk through of your rig
Could do! It's been a minute and it's definitely evolved over the years
Fantastic video. Super glad I found this channel.
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying it
Hadn't given this car a lot of thought, but it looks a ton of fun for people who can handle formula cars!
It's a ton of fun, I really enjoyed it. I definitely need to find more speed but I'm happy about this first race all things considered.
Hi Charlie. Thanks for the great videos. If i may ask. how do you capture your triple screen in the top half of screen like that? in OBS? Looks really nice and better than just capturing the middle screen. Appreciate any advice. And do you use a dual PC stream setup? thanks. Kyle
Hey Kyle! I just use a single PC, the overhead video is captured later and cut in. For the triple screens I just record all 3 screens but only show portions of the left and right monitor. I liked the extra FOV it gave without being excessive. The same can be achieved by recording the first person view with a wider FOV and cutting it in later, without the black bars :D
Thanks for the reply@@CharlieSearsRacing ! would it be correct to assume then that you are not running your triples in surround, so you can record the 3 monitors separately in obs and crop the side monitors to look like you have it here?
That's correct. I do not use surround. You could record the single "monitor" in surround if you wanted. There is a setting that draws the extra pixels if I'm not mistaken (though you get some weird banding because of the different camera angles). I personally don't mind the black bars on the video but I'm still playing around with alternatives since it's not only my decision haha
@CharlieSearsRacing ok cool. I'm still using surround. I'm so nervous to change my settings as my tripples are working pretty well. I must say, I like the black bars in your vid. It looks like a gro pro/pov style. Very cool!
@@kyleshepherdmusic I use my rig for other games so I was constantly switching between surround and non-surround. It got annoying as heck. I eventually just went with non-surround. My center monitor is my primary monitor. I run iRacing in windowed-borderless mode and the top left corner is at 0, -2560 or whatever the negative of a 1440p screen is lol. I'd propose giving it a try, but like you mentioned, you may have to mess with surround. If you do mess with it I'd highly recommend taking notes (or screenshots) of your current surround and iRacing configuration in the case you have to go back. Nothing is worse than fiddling with hardware just to get back on track
nice to see a new upload, looks like a few upgrades to the setup since the last video.
Just the wheel, but it's a heck of an upgrade :D. Still getting used to the Hyper P1, I like the screen a lot more than I thought I would. Been really messing with the LEDs trying to get them right
Really like how you talk us through your decision making. Giving me lots of tips for my future races!
Hope they help! My decisions aren't always ideal, but they work out more often than not haha.
I second this comment, I usually click away but the commentary has gotten me hooked. At minute 13 right now and will watch the whole thing. Great job!
Great race, really enjoyed your commentary.
Thank you! It's a lot of rambling but I hope it's at least mildly interesting :P
I want to get to this level at some point. What car path would you recommend? I'm an A oval and C road, but I haven't raced much road in the past yearish.
What kind of cars do you want to drive? Do you prefer? If you're looking to drive the IR18 the USF2000 -> Indy Pro -> IR18 route is solid and they're well populated series.
hey man, just heard about your that one point you aqurired and i gotta say, that was so awesome!! keep it up man, i hope to see more videos from you :)
I just watched the DjYeeJay video on you. You always seem to have fun.
I try! What's the point in a hobby if it's not fun :D
I’m excited to see this series! Nice to have some Indy content vice most of the nascar ovals. Makes me want to learn open wheel even more now!
love the lego in the background, big lego fan myself
Cheers! What's been your favorite build? I really enjoyed the Saturn V, but Bowser was a lot more fun than I expected.
@@CharlieSearsRacing mine has to either be the concorde or the peugeot 9x8. I wanna try to get the peugeot 9x8 on iracing but im not sure if its on the service yet, im only a rookie as well so i dont know which cars are avaliable for purchase.
The other day I was reading a reddit post from like 8 years ago about iracing RUclipsrs and your name was at the top of the list. Crazy I never knew! Glad you’re back making new vids!
You inspired me to get back into it!
Whoa this is some quality content
Which overlay are you using? Thanks!
Joel Real Timing
I'm really glad I found your channel. I can't remember the last time I had this much fun watching a sim race. Excellent driving and commentary. Keep up the good work man!
